Tapered Cut | Styling Ideas + Tips

Styling a tapered cut can get a little confusing at times, especially if you've never had short hair before. Cutting your hair into into this style means you will constantly be finding ways to keep it funky. It doesn't have to be a pain though! Below are my top ways to style your tapered cut:

Twist Out
It's only right that I start with my old faithful, the twist out. It's a fool proof style that even the newest of naturals can do. For my twist outs, I simply two strand twist the longer section at the top and finger coil or wash-n-go the shorter hair in the back.

Bantu Knots
Bantu Knots are a great style if you want more of a perfect curl without having to sleep in rollers (eek!). Be sure not to roll them too tight or you will be in a lot of pain. The results in the morning should look a little like this:

Rock it Straightened!
I know a lot of naturals are afraid of heat styling, I feel your pain. I would recommend finding a stylist who works with natural hair and knows how much heat your hair texture can withstand without altering your curl pattern. With the proper precautions, the results are super stylish!

Wash-N-Go
I rarely wear a wash-n-go style but I like to experiment from time to time. Wash-n-go's are never really as simple as they sound though. For best results, invest in a good gel, blow dryer with diffuser attachment and a Denman brush (a MUST).

Finger Coils
Fingers coils are a bit time consuming, but the style will last for a few days, if properly maintained. You can wear your finger coils whole or unravel them for a more curly look.

Remember, keep it simple and do whatever style that comes easiest to you!
